sentience, cognition and public perception

As a wellness company that has developed proprietary methodologies for engaging the prana, the life-force, of serpents in the service of human wellness, we're equally devoted to serpent wellness, and dedicated to nurturing our mutually beneficial relationship with these animals, by actively and equally advocating for the enhancement of their physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health, wellbeing and wellness.

Our efforts under the rubric of serpent wellness are robust and ongoing.

They include opening a space for an elevated discourse about these extraordinary whole-prey carnivores themselves, heightening awareness about their behavior and cognition, and the development and dissemination of advanced, evidence-based, state-of-the-science serpent husbandry techniques reflecting the highest levels of ethical responsibility.

Ophidiata’s dedication to advancing the fields of serpent husbandry, behavior, cognition and sentience is integral to our mission as well.

Our partners in this deeply restorative wellness work are the serpents we live and work with every day, including pythons, boas, and Colubridae, the constant, exacting, and ethical care of whom is equally as important as the work we do with humans.

For more than four decades they've been our generous and willing collaborators, offering nature-based, earth-centered wellness practices that call upon them to access their special synchrony with the ancient energy of the earth on humans’ behalf.

And in that regard, as much as we are a wellness company devoted to humans’ wellbeing, we are also a company devoted to providing the newest information and ground-breaking insight on snake husbandry, behavior, cognition and sentience. Quite simply, we cannot do less for them than we are asking them to do for us and on our behalf.

Like all snakes, non-venomous and otherwise, these splendid animals are often bear the weight deep cultural bias, revulsion, and fear, at least partially rooted in an unfortunate tale about a woman, a snake, a piece of fruit, and a garden.

In that light, and in an effort to generate widespread support for heightened standards of ethical serpent husbandry, we are deeply committed to nullifying misconceptions about serpents writ large.

We work hard to enhance the public perception of snakes as sentient, curious, socially complex individuals deserving of our protection, care, and respect, possessed of complex attributes, capabilities, behaviors, and inner lives.

Moreover, we’re equally committed to opening discourse on the enormous cultural significance serpents have held in diverse cultures throughout human history.

Critically, this facet of our work also includes enhancing societal appreciation of snakes by debunking snake-related myths and stereotypes and strengthening, broadening and elevating the positive discourse surrounding them.

Our growing library of videos focused on husbandry methodologies as well as enhancing cultural awareness of serpent cognition and sentience constitute the most visible arm of these efforts. (links to YouTube and other socials here?
